A Selection of Landscapes
These paintings show examples of works based upon the theme of landscape. The approach differs in that some are decorative, some representational and others are abstract. These paintings are impressions of places visited but often I have manipulated space and composition to create abstract qualities and visual ambiguity. Colour, texture and contrast are elements that combine to create atmosphere and mood. I want my work to bare inspection. I want the viewer to feel the need to look all over the picture plane.

Spirit of China
Pointed outcrops of limestone tower into the sky. Villages, temples, shrines and bridges highlight the small scale of humanity in relation to nature. This is the spirit of Chinese landscape painting. These are my interpretations using exaggerated colour and compositional license. What is a Western take on an Eastern aesthetic.
